Biolea
Biolea is a Cretan producer of organic extra virgin olive oil located in Astrikas, near Chania. Biolea is distinguished by its use of a stone mill and traditional cold extraction, a rare method today that preserves the natural texture and aromas of the olive.
A unique stone mill in Crete
Biolea uses a traditional system of granite millstones to crush olives.
Unlike modern industrial systems with metal discs, the stone grinding wheel provides a slower, gentler grinding action.
This method helps preserve the organoleptic characteristics and natural structure of the oil.
Certified organic olive oil
Biolea produces exclusively organic olive oil.
The olive groves are cultivated without chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilizers.
This approach respects the soil, biodiversity and fruit quality.
Cold extraction and unfiltered texture
After grinding, extraction is carried out cold to maintain the natural aromas and compounds.
Biolea often offers an unfiltered oil that is denser, more turbid, with a lively texture and marked aromatic intensity.
Koroneiki variety and Chania terroir
Biolea oil comes mainly from the Koroneiki variety, renowned for its green fruitiness and rich phenolic compounds.
The climate of western Crete, more humid than the south, influences freshness and aromatic vivacity.
A mill open to visitors
Biolea does more than just produce.
The mill can be visited and allows visitors to discover the entire process: harvesting, grinding, extraction and tasting.
This transparency reinforces the project’s pedagogical and artisanal dimension.
