A family adventure inspired by Crete
Located in the village of Stavrakia, near Heraklion, Tsatsakis is a family-run bakery founded in 1998 by five passionate brothers. From the outset, it has combined respect for tradition with progressive modernization. In 2002, the first factory was renovated, followed by a second in 2003 to meet growing demand. Throughout this evolution, the company has maintained its rigorous craftsmanship. As a result, production remains true to the Mediterranean essence: low-salt recipes, no added sugar or superfluous ingredients.

Frequently asked questions about paximadia, Cretan bread and croutons
Are paximadia always sweet?
No, they’re not. In fact, some are sweet cookies, but others are dry, lightly salted double-baked breads, perfect for dipping in a drink or tzatziki.
Why are paximadia cooked twice?
This double cooking gives them their dry, crunchy texture. What’s more, it ensures better preservation, while guaranteeing a rich taste that’s perfect for tasting with a Cretan salad, for example.
What is a Cretan breadstick?
A breadstick is a long, thin stick of bread, often made from barley or wholemeal flour. It’s naturally crisp and sometimes embellished with seeds such as sesame or sunflower.
How do you use croutons in the kitchen?
Artisan croutons are easy to add to soups, salads or dips. In a simple way, they add a gourmet texture, without the addition of preservatives or palm oil.
Can paximadia replace fresh bread?
Yes, because they offer a healthy alternative thanks to their high fiber content and long shelf life. What’s more, they add crunch without excess salt or added sugar.
