Ktima Toplou
Ktima Toplou, an estate in Sitia, produces organic wines and Cretan raki in the heart of the historic monastery. Tasting, culture and nature combined.
A unique spiritual and wine heritage
In the heart of eastern Crete, between Sitia and the historic monastery of Toplou, lies the Ktima Toplou estate, a place where spirituality and vines have coexisted for over four centuries. This emblematic site, founded by the monks of Toplou, has shaped a rare heritage where tradition, organic farming and modernity meet.
The estate, now carefully managed by the Tsompanakis family, perpetuates production based on the purity of the Cretan terroir, while adopting methods that respect nature and the passage of time.
Wines with character and ancient roots
The vineyards of Ktima Toplou flourish on clay-limestone soils bathed in light. The grape varieties Thrapsathiri, Vilana and Vidiano for the whites, Kotsifali, Mandilari and Syrah for the reds, express themselves with intensity and balance.
Our certified organic cuvées are distinguished by their aromatic precision and mineral freshness. Among the most remarkable:
Toplou Organic White: a bright white with notes of lemon, almond and wild flowers.
Toplou Red: a harmonious, complex blend of red fruits, spices and velvety tannins.
Thrapsathiri Reserve: a rare expression of Sitia terroir, full-bodied and golden.
Each wine reflects the richness of a Mediterranean climate softened by sea breezes.
Raki, olive oil and Cretan hospitality
The estate offers more than just wine: it also houses a traditional distillery, where Toplou raki is created from the estate’s own grape marc.
Produced by slow double distillation, this clear, intense spirit offers remarkable purity, true to the Cretan spirit.
Toplou cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil completes the experience. It seduces with its fluid texture, green fruitiness and aromas of artichoke and fresh almond.
